A short history of Sprotbrough.
Sprotbrough is a substantial village three miles west of Doncaster, sitting on a hilltop above the Don gorge β one of the most dramatic limestone landscapes in South Yorkshire and now part of the Sprotbrough Flash nature reserve. The parish church of St Mary has Norman origins and contains a remarkable mediaeval font. Sprotbrough Hall was the seat of the Copley family for centuries before its demolition in 1926.
Modern Sprotbrough has around 11,500 residents. The village is regarded as one of the most desirable in the borough, with good schools, an active community and the spectacular country setting of Sprotbrough Flash on the doorstep. Housing is dominated by post-war detached and semi-detached, with smaller pockets of older village stock and modern infill.
