A short history of Ecclesfield.
Ecclesfield is a large village in north Sheffield with a remarkable parish church β the 15th-century St Mary's, sometimes called the 'Minster of the Moors', is one of the largest parish churches in South Yorkshire. The village was historically a centre for cutlery and file manufacturing, supplying the Sheffield trade with semi-finished goods, and the small workshops still dot the older parts of the village.
Modern Ecclesfield has around 11,000 residents. Housing includes older village cottages and stone terraces, large inter-war and post-war estates, and modern detached houses around the edges. The village adjoins Chapeltown, Grenoside and High Wincobank.
