About Brinsworth

A short history of Brinsworth.

Brinsworth sits on the southern edge of Rotherham, immediately west of the M1, and is dominated visually by the Templeborough complex β€” site of the Roman fort of Templeborough (occupied from around AD 54 to 410) and later the Steel, Peech and Tozer steelworks, one of the giants of South Yorkshire's industrial era, which closed in 1993. The Magna Science Adventure Centre now occupies part of the former steelworks and remains one of the most striking industrial-heritage venues in the country.

Brinsworth itself has around 9,000 residents and is largely a residential suburb of Rotherham, well-positioned for easy motorway access. Housing is mostly post-war semi-detached, with newer detached estates filling in around the edges towards Catcliffe and Treeton.
